Kid-bits!

         Maverick is now 3 months old. These days he is smiling, laughing, and exploring his vocal chords by screaming and cooing a lot. I LOVE IT!  He recognizes and distinguishes me as his mom (I think) because he gets very excited to see me when I've been working all night (which I've started back full time this week).
         He's growing soooo fast and doing something new each week. He's discovered his hands grabbing at objects, rubbing his eyes when he's tired (big clue for me-very helpful!), and chewing/gnawing/sucking on his fists.

{ A funny thing that he's been doing:
when he's reclined and sitting in his vibrating/bouncy seat, is to crunch up like he's trying to sit up, but it looks like he's trying to take a big poop or working those abs! }

         Maverick has always been a sleepy nurser up until now. Lately he gets distracted and nursing him is taking longer because he wants to look at anything that catches his eye, like the light or the print on my Hooter Hider. Or he just looks at me with a BIG smile (while staying latched on)......SO CUTE! He's a big eater as always, and is now starting to fill out instead of being so lengthy. His chubby cheeks are beginning and they are sooo kissable. I weighed him, while subtracting the difference in our weights, and he is about 14lbs now.
         We've also reached a new milestone this week. Which is sleeping in his crib instead of the bassinet, as he has almost out grown it already. He sleeps about 2-3 hour stretches and on a good night 4 hours. (I REALLY hope he sleeps through the night soon) But it's really not so bad as he wakes up maybe 2-3 times in the night.
         Since day one, he's held up his neck really well. He's always been very strong. He likes to stand a lot and you barely have to hold him to keep him balanced- I think he'll be walking before crawling. He's also already rolled over from tummy to back at about 5 or 6 weeks already. In many ways he's been very advanced for his age. He loves to be talked/sang/whistled to. He likes to be the center of attention for sure (gets it from his Dad). Oh ya, and in car rides, even if he's been thoroughly fed, changed, burped, etc, he's still not very happy- mainly because he's not getting attention I think. But getting better. At least he doesn't scream bloody murder as much now while taking a short drive somewhere.

His other firsts:
  • has had a cold already and was a trooper
  • has been to the Snake River fishing twice
  • went camping at Lake Sullivan at 4 weeks old
  • went to a movie at 4 weeks old
  • stayed in the houseboat on Lake CDA at 3 weeks old
  • went to his Uncle's wedding at 1 week old

WOW!! HAS MAVERICK CHANGED SO MUCH IN JUST 3 MONTHS.  I sure do love him a TON!

November 12, 2011

           Maverick is now only sleeping in his crib these days- naps and bedtime. This day light savings time sure has messed up the somewhat sleep routine we were establishing. Now it feels like starting all over again with a schedule. Oh well!  He still loves to be swaddled. So tight that he's like a mummy with his arms pinned to his sides. I've tried putting him down for a nap without it, and he just wakes right up, flailing his arms and getting pissed. I wonder when he will out grow it?  He's pretty funny to watch on the baby monitor while he sleeps because his new thing is to scrunch his legs and feet up like a sit up, and he does this often in his sleep. I am always on edge about it thinking he's going to wake him self up. Regardless of how tight he is swaddled though, Dan calls him a ninja Houdini  because inevitably he eventually manages to sneak his arms and hands out of his blankets and, of course wakes himself up then. However, I've read that babies practice their motor skills in their sleep to strengthen their muscles in order to help prepare them for sitting up and rolling over. Hm!
           As always Maverick is a big bundle of joy. He's becoming even more talkative with his voice and giggling. Still not saying every vowel sound yet. But soon. He's discovered his feet and is constantly grabbing them when lying on his back. He LOVES it when I play and kiss them. He has the BEST smile ever too!
          Also, he has FINALLY (yesterday) kept his pacifier in his mouth without using it has a comfort tool when he's tired and not hungry. I've been wanting him to take a pacifier since he was born- in order to give me a break. And I don't care if I have trouble weaning him off of it later because my theory is: eventually when he's old enough to go to school, then he'll want to be a BIG boy and probably decide he won't want it anymore. (We'll see if my theory works). I'm wondering if he's begun teething too. He likes to gnaw on his toys a lot more these days and of course drools like crazy.
